It’s been five years since Dim Mak Records started the New Noise brand as a platform for sharing new sounds from fresh faces. After releasing five annual compilations (with our most recent volume nominated as one of Beatport’s 2013 “Compilations of the Year”) New Noise is migrating to a bi-weekly, free-download model based on singles as opposed to compilations.
New Noise’s latest iteration takes cues from Dim Mak’s historically diverse musical catalogue, careening through bass-heavy future house beats, sultry hip-hop heaters, kaleidoscopic indie rock grooves and experimental live electronica fusions amongst infinite genre-crossing possibilities. As the record label responsible for launching the careers of legendary acts across the musical spectrum such as Bloc Party, The Bloody Beetroots and Deorro to name a few, Dim Mak will continue championing our forward-thinking discovery objective with New Noise’s free releases.
“I’m so excited to announce the transformation of New Noise into a free model,” Dim Mak founder Steve Aoki explains. “I’ve never liked the idea of putting up barriers to new music discovery, and even with my own material I always make full track streams available on SoundCloud. The “new” New Noise will allow fans direct access to crucial new sounds curated by myself and the Dim Mak crew. New artists, new sounds, NEW NOISE!!!”
Los Angeles-based producer Ghastly kicks off New Noise’s free release future with his bassline house opus “Every Night.” Weaving together thumping bass-kicks and high-pitched vocal samples with his own spin on the signature low-end bounce breakdowns that have quickly infiltrated America’s future bass scene, Ghastly’s “Every Night” exemplifies New Noise’s mission of bringing innovative sounds to music’s forefront.
Ghastly’s New Noise release follows an unprecedented run of hype for the 22-year-old young-gun with LA Weekly ranking his first OWSLA record “Funky Flex” as the number one tune off the imprints’s Free Treats Vol. II compilation. Soon after, he returned to OWSLA to collaborate with Mija on “Crank It” featuring Lil Jon. The Los Angeles transplant has become a fixture in the city’s burgeoning underground scene, boothing up as Exchange’s resident DJ and frequenting tastemaking venues like Avalon and Sound.
New Noise releases will be available as two-week free downloads / Soundcloud full streams, in addition to being available on iTunes, Beatport, Spotify, Amazon and Google Play.
