Skrillex Writes History At UMF 2015

This past week was what’s known in the world of dance music as Winter Music Conference. Every year, some of the biggest names in dance music meet up in Miami for a week of partying and networking, and finish off the week with Ultra Music Festival. This year, Ultra chose Skrillex to close the festival, and it might’ve been the best decision they’ve ever made.

Skrillex knew the pressure was high, so he  came out swinging, dropping bomb after bomb. The energy instantly sky rocketed as Sonny lit up the main stage with probably one of the most diverse selections of music all weekend long. He didn’t only play his infamously filthy dubstep bangers, but played everything from Wiweks booty shaking Jungle Terror, to the blood and life of all 90s babies, Sum 41. Skrillex brought a diverse energy to the main stage that no other artist could compare to, and he showed Miami and the 150,000 people tuned in online across the world that he definitely knew how to close a festival. Not only did he create a burst of energy unlike any other set throughout the weekend, but he decided to bring some friends along.

Everyone on Twitter and Facebook had been anticipating throughout the day that Sonny would bring joint project colleague Diplo with him, along with Bieber himself…but that was a huge underestimation. Diplo jumped on the decks around half way through Skrillex’s set to turn UMF into a Jack U party. Afterwards, Kiesza made an appearance to sing their hit record “Take U There”. If that wasn’t enough, Skrillex brought out rapper CL and the legendary P Diddy A.K.A Sean Combs A.K.A Puff Daddy to push the energy even further. Finally, Biebs made an appearance that created a mixed response from fans on social media outlets. Although attendees at UMF seemed to enjoy his appearance, viewers online did not seem to match their level of excitement.

Regardless, Skrillex’s/Jack U & Friend’s set at Ultra was one of the most energetic, diverse, and historic sets of the weekend, and if you happened to miss out for some reason, you can hope and pray that the set ends up in the internet within the next few weeks.

Enjoy.
