About a decade ago, some local Chicago-based DJs and musical artists including but not limited to Green Velvet/Cajmere and Derrick Carter got together and started a yearly summer fling on Oakwood Beach, one of Chicago’s many beaches on the coast of the abundantly blue and fantastically beautiful Lake Michigan. The whole idea was to simply unite a crowd of people focused on the music in a unique summer environment in the city which some call “the Miami of the North,” a nickname earned by all of Chicago’s wonderful waterfront during the warm months of the year. Who wouldn’t want to come jam to some tunes in a concert setting while simultaneously swimming and splashing in a lake of fresh water?
VIP access to Mamby On The Beach allows just that; you can swim in the lake while enjoying one of the most awesome lineups of this year’s festival season. The Midwest’s very own React Presents has taken this DIY beach party and turned it into an all-weekend, summer festival bash with three stages featuring some of the best names in electronic music and beyond. This year they’re bringing in J.Phlip, Röyksopp, Passion Pit, Robert DeLong, the legendary Cashmere Cat, Chicago’s own future tropical home team Autograf and Louis The Child, and a very rare performance from the enigmatic Zhu.
Midwesterners are always complaining about the winter weather in their locale. Midwestern winters are miserable. It’s no wonder that when the sun comes out and warms our part of the planet for this short time during the year that people would want to go all out and just have a fun beach party.
So if you live in a frigidly cold place most of the year and you want to take advantage of your summer time in non-sub-zero temperatures with awesome music, get to Mamby On The Beach the weekend of July 11th and 12th.
