Y2K has been making waves on Soundcloud for years, dropping remixes left right and center, and this time is no different. Returning with his latest effort; Y2K has given us a delicious, moody flip of Blackbear’s ‘Do Re Mi’.
As a longtime fan of Y2K, I am always impressed by how he keeps the spirit of the original song intact when it comes to his remixes. He balances the original perfectly by always managing to bring more to the production, which enhances and elevates the track to new heights.
In this offering, he has upped the melody to 11 (as he usually does), adding multiple instrumental layers to the arrangement and crafting a really wholesome and rich sound. With a solemn guitar riff, wailing drone synths, satisfying string plucks accompanying the chorus, and a smooth, textured bass line that hits right when you need it; Y2K’s remix of ‘Do Re Mi’ strikes a beautiful balance of organic and electronic that is an absolute delight to listen to.
This incredible artist has done an enormous service to this track, so much so that I feel it may have even superseded the original. The balance of each element within the arrangement and each other is a testament to his production prowess. I strongly suggest checking out the rest of Y2K’s catalog, as you will be guaranteed to find more gems. My personal favourites are his remixes of Hudson Mohawke’s ‘Chimes’, and more recently, Lil Pump’s ‘Flex Like Ouu’.
