A decade of Hard Summer was not only a cause for celebration; it was necessity. If you had attended any of the previous Hard Presents festivals or parties, you would be accustomed to an insanely well-curated lineup spanning all genres barring country I believe (not that there’s anything wrong with liking it, chill).
This year’s 10th anniversary of Hard Summer was no different and in my opinion was one of if not the best Hard event I have experienced since Hard Haunted Mansion 2009 (it was lit, trust me). This year I was lucky enough to be invited to check out what this year’s event had to offer and with Snoop Dogg and Dog Blood performing I had no restraints.
This year’s event took place at the beautiful San Manuel Amphitheatre up in San Bernardino, California and the weather was perfect considering it’s August. With five main stages and one poolside stage, there was never a dull moment for music. From newcomers like SAYMYNAME absolutely crushing a massive Green Stage crowd with mosh pits and heavy chanting to legends in the game like Bassnectar bringing arguably the biggest draw to the event other than maybe Dog Blood or Snoop Dogg.
Fans from all walks of life were in attendance. I saw trap stars and frat boys, festival junkies and first timers. I saw fans of rap old and new paying tribute to artists like Prodigy of Mobb Deep. There was a full array of exquisite festival foods which of my favorite was definitely the bacon wrapped tritip kabob which I bought both days I attended.
I was lucky enough to catch some insane sets from YehMe2, Kill The Noise, 12th Planet, LA Leakers, and superstars Migos. Dog Blood threw down a nasty techno set with some new unheard of bangers and an intense array of showmanship. Snoop Dogg performed his legendary Doggystyle album live with a few other classics. Bassnectar had the crowd jumping and vibing with an intense array of bass tracks and nectar favorites alike.
All in all Hard Summer 2017 was an exceptionally fun event to have attended and I couldn’t be more pleased with this years festivities. Seeing the only performance for Dog Blood this year and experiencing the grandmaster Snoop Dogg live will be memories I never let fade. The 10th anniversary of Hard Summer was a successful overture to a decade of music festival greatness and I hope next years can top it.
