There’s a fresh new tune out today that will have your body swaying and your heart aching being released on Secret Shores. Producer and musician Maxd and singer/songwriter ÊMIA may be some of the freshest names in the electronic music scene, but their latest collaboration “Words” sounds like the work of veteran musicians capturing the sound of modern electronic pop.
This new track opens with a soft piano melody that dives right into ÊMIA’s youthful voice. Her lyrics center on the anxiety one can have when waiting on the words of a significant other and the way that can spellbind you with emotions. Meanwhile, the music glitters with sweet melodic synths that intertwine with Maxd’s bouncy rhythms sprinkled with vocal chops of ÊMIA’s singing. The result is one of the year’s best efforts in making future pop by combining pristine sound design with genuine vocal and lyrical talent.
This is an interesting collaboration that takes Maxd (real name Maxime Trippenbach) and ÊMIA (real name Anh Le) to new levels of sound and music. From the former’s introduction to electronic music with the deadmau5 classic “Strobe” and the latter’s cover of songs like “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day, these two bring their influences to the table without wearing them on their sleeves too much. With “Words”, the two create a song that’s fun, catchy, poppy, and vibey.
