The name Deadmau5 was a less prominent presence this year as Joel Zimmerman’s new alias “Testpilot” makes its return in 2017. Making breakout performances, which include headlining Detroit’s very own The Movement festival, the alter-ego has provided a much more interesting set that caters more to the underground techno scene and less of what the artist is known for. As we begin to wrap up 2017, Testpilot is set to make his debut in New York City as he takes Brooklyn’s own Depot 52 Warehouse, alongside Tensnake and Dennis Ferrer. Hosted by Teksupport, the event is one of many that will be essential for New Years Eve weekend in New York City.
Testpilot has been no secret. The alias has been dated back to 2013 with a back to back set with Richie Hawtin’s at SXSW. The alias’ resurgence is not only welcoming to techno fans alike but refreshing. Knowing Deadmau5, the artist has been one of the bigger advocates of the techno scene. Getting a taste as to what the alter-ego provides is evident in not only his set at “The Movement”, but also through this strictly techno back to back set at Electric Zoo with Eric Prydz. This was the year of Testpilot. An outlet for Joel to express his love and deep roots in the techno realm. With the momentum of 2017, we are excited to see what he brings not only on December 30th but in 2018 as well.
With Tensnake and Dennis Ferrer on the bill, this is no event to be missed. Tensnake’s very diverse and very vibey sound will provide a very luscious mood to open the night, and Dennis Ferrer’s spacious techno will be a primer for what’s to come. We are excited to see what the three have in stored when they land in Brooklyn December 30th
