Buzzworthy Sydeny producer DJ Hydraulix is ready to shake up the summer with the release of his new EP, properly-titled, Kingdom. A eclectic musical taste in his youth led him to begin both making and playing out beats.
The four-track Kingdom is to drop through UZ’s Quality Goods Records, and opens with “Roll Out”. Composed with the help of Avance, it moves with menacing precision and plunging bass notes. Pacy builds and splintering drops make for the perfect introduction to the EP. Next up is the single “Angels” featuring TezaTalks, who is a prolific figure within the gaming community. Written with her distinguishing vocals a major focal point, this glitchy down-tempo piece is satisfyingly melodic and makes for an addictive listen. “Stress” comes next as a three-way collaboration with fellow Australian Oski and New Zealander Ian Munro. Dangerously sharp with its warped streaks of instrumentals and menacingly climatic beats, this showcases the best from all three producers. Last up is a track made with Quality Goods’ very own UZ, “Ransom”. Riddled with spiky Eastern-inspired riffs and swaggering basslines, ‘Ransom’ completes the ‘Kingdom’ EP with rhythmical aplomb; ready to descend on the dance floor.
Hydraulix’s signature sound is richly peppered with hip-hop and rap influences, and his bassy rhythms have been released on the likes of Quality Goods Records, Disciple and TWONK. Touring has become a major part of his career over the years, having now played his genre-switching sets across Australia, Japan, China and USA many times over.
