On November 6th, 2017, Meek Mill (born Robert Rihmeek Williams) received a 2 to 4 year prison sentence for violating the terms of his probation with actions involving a motorcycle in Manhattan, an alleged altercation in a St. Louis Airport in addition to failing drug tests and violating travel restrictions. In April, Robert will appeal this sentence on the grounds that one of the officers who originally arrested him, Reginald Graham, is allegedly on a secret list of corrupt police compiled by the District Attorney’s Office of Philadelphia. Not your babe. Not your girl, sweetie, honey. Not Yr Babe, a Philadelphia based collective, seeks to rebrand the image of women in EDM. NYB founder and producer Ashley Burkart, aka ABUR, started Not Yr Babe as a way for female-identifying producers to connect. Noticing a lack of such producers in the Philadelphia scene, Burkart started the collective not as a group, but as a simple way for producers to link up. After hearing a playlist entitled ‘Opus Ira‘ by Toronto producer KaTT, there was no doubt in my mind that he has the potential to be a real force in the current Trap scene and Bass scene in general. A holistically structured body of works, this project delivers not only on each individual song but also as a collective composition, like chapters of a book. And they literally flow into each other.
